Hi Guys,
I have used this great writeup and followed it almost to the letter. The only difference is what I did with the original 12v cigarette charger. I split it apart as i was never going to use the dash cam in another car, hacked the transformer and closed it all into its original casing, basically I added 2 wires to the circuit board then connect to the fuse holder and earth. Look at the pics.
Installing A Dashcam
Many thanks for the guide.
I ran the lead for my 512G under the ribbon, down the inside of the trim all the way to the bottom of the fuse box, then through the handy hole under the fuse box back up and in.
I bought two microfuse connectors. The first had a crimping end, the 2nd a bullet end. The one with the bullet end just didn't fit in the fusebox hole. So I ended up cutting up both and soldering one to the other. All done in about 30 minutes inc soldering time!

I've recently fitted two, one to my car and one to my Dad's. Used fuse holder bottom left, 10 amp, though. Does cut and reset camera when start/stop system activates. May have to review this?

I'm thinking along similar lines. What did you end up doing after all? I'm not great at fiddling with cabling & fuse box. Obtaining some Halfords help does sound tempting.jeffers wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2016 10:42 am Not happy about poking about in the fuse box but according to Halfords web site they will hardwire to the fuse box a dash cam for £30 providing you buy from them. They are offering 20% discount on some cams at the mo. It says it's for a trade in but seems as long as you buy on line for click and collect you get the 20%. Not sure I'd want a Halfords lad messing with my new QQ but for £30 fitting maybe it's a good deal?

Decided it wasn't worth the possible unforeseen problems so have had it connected with wire concealed along windscreen down door pillar trim under floor mat/passenger seat to the armrest socket. Only downside for me is camera comes on if you open the door or boot when you don't intend driving away.

Thanks for such a concise heads-up and it is amazing the value of this information, recently enquired at GH the price of fitting the hard wire and was quoted £142 I believe and told it has to go all the way through the Roof Lining.
Just one question why a 5A instead of the supplied 2A !
Thanks again.

As others have said, an excellent article on fitting & hardwiring a dashcam. Seldom have I seen a more detailed, informative and extremely useful illustrated article anywhere. Well done indeed - and thank you for sharing.
