That’s my understanding of the way it works on the few Micra that have CarPlay, or at least that’s how the dealership was selling it.

At Apple’s WWDC 2018 keynote event last month, they announced that CarPlay will be updated later this year to support third-party map apps such as Waze and Google Maps. Useful to know if you prefer using those apps, own an iPhone and have a car that supports CarPlay ;)

Dave,

I'm quite sure I made the comments, not so sure if they will come to fruition ;) Why would any car manufacturer give you an upgrade with the chance that you will keep your car and skip there next model update. I've never herd of this, ever. Unless someone makes them do it, like the recent VW Audi debacle etc.

I promised to post what I know so will try to get it together this weekend - Dave 😋

My Ignis has built in satnav but also has CarPlay/ Android Auto/ Mirrorlink. However to use those functions the phone has to be connected to the USB port - they won't work on wireless. That means for me taking out the USB stick I've put all my music onto (since I don't use my phone for music). I'm finding it too much of a hassle.

I depends on the trim level - CarPlay comes in at a lower level than integrated satnav

Correct, but we got the Accenta with added Vision Pack which includes rear view camera. This gives satnav but removes the Apple CarPlay. As DaveBerlin suggests, things ‘may’ change when the new engines are launched this autumn.

Slightly off topic as it's a different manufacturer but I have just been reading that Mazda will be offering Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android Auto for their 2018/19 models but they can also retrofit it to models from 2014 and newer, as long as they have the Mazda Connect system. Prices start from $199 (in the US) or £350 (in the UK).

As Engadget notes in their article:
...Mazda deserves some credit for making the retrofit an option in the first place -- a lot of other automakers would have simply suggested you buy a new model

There is a special offer from one Mazda dealer to have it fitted for £299:

I'm pretty sure other manufacturers, including Nissan, could offer something similar for existing customers!
