Ive had the same symptoms as described, it was caused by the battery in the key fob needing replacing.
Its a simple process, there's a video on YouTube

all thats needed is a flathead screwdriver and a new CR2032 Battery

I had exactly same problem with mine. Main dealer only charged me £5 to supply and fit a new battery if you don’t fancy doing it yourself.

£5 that's not to bad on my dad's Jaguar the dealer charged £75 stating tjat it was a special battery when in fact it's the same as the battery in all other car keys.

I told him next time I'd get the battery and fit it for half the price. 😋

Sounds like a case of lying and a call to the customer helpline to start with, then failing that trading standards. I would try get the moneys back.

This Battery Change process is pretty easy when you have done it once. I just gave the Manual a read and then gave it a try. I tend to buy a pack of C2032 Batteries when they are on sale at Lidl for example as the cost is peanuts (used also on many electronic items) and with the quality have never had a major problem - Dave :D

I suspect it varies. When I bought my car at eight months old I had connection problems so replaced the battery in one key. Both were fine for two years after that until I sold it. Obviously (I assume I'm right saying that) smart keys are going to use more battery than simple remotes.

I believe Land Rover routinely replace the batteries in keys at service.

I've just traded in my old motorbike and neither key had needed a replacement battery in eight years

I've just got to owning a Qashqai Tekna for three years from new and both smart key fobs have just started to fail. The fobs would only open the car when they felt like it - they seemed to behave better after warming them in the hand for a few minutes.
Luckily I saw this thread and followed the instructions in the video. Very easy - and I saved a fiver! Thanks

Den, if you look at the video you will see there is no warning lights and after 4 years I have not found one. The situation is it works or doesn’t and that means a new battery, but it is an easy procedure - Dave :D
