Hi
I noticed yesterday when getting out of the car that there was a nasty raised bit on the silver coating of the interior door opener. It feels like the coating is coming away from the handle itself and could get worse over time. How easy would this be to replace?

Thanks

That's a new one - no one else has reported it as far as I am aware.

Might it be easier to carefully file it off?

I’ll have a look in the daylight and see. It’s p***ing down at the moment, so that’s a job for later. It’s on the bit that faces the door so filing it might be the easiest way.

Is this defect something that has just become apparent or always been there ?
The reason I ask is because normally when these parts as new are formed - Molded (Plastic) or Cast (Metal) normally the parts of the Mold Tool have to Butt together to prevent excess material called “Flash” when two faces do not come together or an edge is damaged. The result is a usually a “Ragged” edge which has to be removed before Plating or the result is a Plated Sharp Edge.
As Gloucester suggested run a light file over the corner it’s better than the expense of a new one or blood everywhere - Dave 😉

Here are a couple of articles which might be of interest -Plastic related but a similiar effect :

Or you could slip a piece of shrink wrap sleeving over it and apply heat from a hair dryer or similar.

We’ve just bought the car from a dealer. We had a full RAC inspection and the dealer rectified all things RAC mentioned at their expense.
The wife and I didn’t notice it, nor did the dealer or the RAC. Just one of those things.

I’m sure if one of us had caught it, the dealer would’ve offered to repair it. They had a large mechanics and body shop. I have to say, the dealer was excellent in every respect.

Now in bed with proper flu, so all of this will have to wait.
