Just been watching the “Grip” TV Motor Programm here and what comes up again was the subject of Intelligent Key‘s and car stealing. A Test was carried out on a Mitsubishi (with an additional Alarm), Kia, MB SUV, Skoda and finally a MB S Class @ €100,000+ all of the Owners were embarrassed. The guy who carried out the tests was Udo Hagemann from Bundpol Security in Berlin who I spoke to a couple of years back. The recommended methods on the Programm to overcome the problem was naturally their Secukey 3.0 priced at around €249 or the cheaper method of a Pouch. The system can be installed by Profi‘s or DIY - Dave 😊

Hi Gel, I also read this BBC article this morning and it appears to be the same old Situation. This subject keeps raising it head and we have covered this on several Posts before. It still appears that no solution is being assessed to overcome this Problem by the Manufacturers, so it still Looks like the QQ Owners have to look after themselves _ Dave ;)
Out of Interest has any Forum Member purchased this or a similiar product to minimise this known Problem ??

We are still using our "Themis" Security Wallet and have just got hold of another for our Spare Key, these are still available on Amazon. Our Dealership Owner has recently asked me for Details out of interest rachat de credit info, so that they can assess this system as they again got stuck when they changed my wheels and the QQ would not function - whoops forgot to change compartments.
Here are the Forum Facts (3x) again but also (2x) new ones if of interest ,hopefully this is not again too Boring. PS I am not an Employee of this Co. ! just an interested person

Premium GEN 4 Car Key Bag
Premium Gen 4 - Protects all wireless keys of various car manufacturers from copying and extending the radio signal. High-quality Nano plastics from the German automotive industry with Soft Touch outside, inside a 4-layered shielding fabric, 2 compartments, one is 100% shielded for protection and one is not shielded, to use the vehicle as usual. The Faraday cage principle is only given to a 100%, if no connection (tape, key ring, etc.) remains to the outside of the bag. When you insert the key all the way into the shielded slot, it is 100% blocked.

Out of Interest here is a Sectioned one just to Show the Layering :

But at what cost. The is the question and how to check if it is reliable or not.

Hi Thomas welcome to the Forum. What cost are you questioning the Security Wallet (I paid around €24 when I first bought one) or the Secukey 3.0 (€249 - DIY or Installation cost). Last week I left all the Secukey German Info’ with our Dealer’s Service Boss and asked him to comment on this Technically and for a installation cost on a new QQ. Take a look on the web for the Wallets as there a lot of cheaper ones around now, but regarding quality I cannot comment. You most probably have not read my recent post, but I have now bought a Steering Lock as a back up 🙄 - Dave 😉

Anybody seen anything on QQ's of the last 3 years production being hacked the way high(er) end cars are?

Its an old story really. I seem to remember the hackers hanging around flyovers and car parks capturing codes in the late 80's. And the Road Warriors driving around residential areas trying to pick off Home wifi passwords.

I've scanned the frequency of my QQ key recently which shows up at 433.92 MHz (European, Japanese and Asian cars) and is in the UHF Amateur Band. Very short rf burst right through my house walls and about 4 mtrs up the drive...car opens!

I am expecting to hear that car manufacturers have had some very secure(?) closed meetings about this problem? I'd expect GCHQ to have/had some lean in it also simply because they must have the ability to crack all coded signals in UK. For us that means little and I don't expect any Govt/EU Dept to jump down car manufacturers throats at any time.....unfortunately!

The pic below may illustrate whats happening while our cars sleep (doze) and posted by duncho earlier. Car is on idle current drain and then periodically sniffs the radio spectrum for a key emission. So do other cars and carrying different id codes.

The other direct car (key) theft approach...almost at your throat. This bothers me because its about 5 miles away from me....more rural. However, it does highlight the reluctance of both police and councils to address the pestilence of door step sellers (beggars basically) and chancers. Bible thumpers/charity things and overall junk sellers.... where the warnings about opening a door to them is a risk. Door stepping needs to be an offence.

Hi Colin, this is one Big Problem for the Older Ones of us and you do need to keep your wits about you. Luckily we live in a Ground Floor Appt. which has a Key or a Security Buzzer Access, if you do not want them then don’t let them in. Also if the Maintenance Guys come they have to make an Appointment and we always ask before they step over the Door Step for Identification. This eliminates the unwanted persons.
We both also carry Pepper Sprays, also one in the car and one by the Appt. Door and hidden behind the Door an Ally Baseball Bat and Alarm. We got busted once and it just ain’t nice having people roaming your place.
Naturally the Big Problem for the Oldies is being aware what could happen and to try to prevent it, but it ain’t that easy as speed / movement is important. Thanks for the Info’, reading this stuff keeps you Alert - Dave 😉

ok Dave...I'd likely have no "tools" on me/to hand when the event occurs? I have a 1080p IP/IR camera up on the front of my house which has recorded a few occurrences. Not theft yet.

Of course there are over viewing regs on such cameras...watching neighbours? No thanks!

My friends in the US (Oregon) have Glocks under their car seats...Bears!

Did Toyota read my comment on Pepper Sprays ? Because Toyota have now created a patent for an anti-theft device to dispense tear gas inside the car - Dave 😂
