Not sure how this applies in the rest of Europe / World, I have seen comments but not so sure if there are Specific Laws. IMHO the problem is important with the daily Stress of Families / Work - one can get forgetful ! - Dave 🤨

“Italian law now requires vehicles to have a safety device that alerts drivers if a child has been left behind in the rear seat or a car seat. The law is designed to prevent hot car deaths. Some devices will send visual and audible alerts when someone gets out of the car, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Other devices will send signals to the driver's smartphone that it is out of range from the sensor on the child's car seat”.

Italy makes alarms for baby car seats mandatory : https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/09/europe/italy-mandatory-car-seat-alarms-intl/index.html

Thanks, Dave! These tips are good and handy, even if the specific rules might be slightly different here. When our kids were (much) younger, I made it a habit to put my backpack for work in the back seat of the car, so I knew I couldn't fail to notice if there was a sleeping child there, when I got to work. That never happened, of course, but that tiny trick made me feel a lot better. The winter coat one is important now, when we're heading towards cold weather. They are compressible and slippery things, don't leave them on under the seat belt!

Mark, glad to see the comment was of interest - Dave 😉
Nissan have their own RDA System on their US Vehicles. In 2019, Nissan introduced its RDA Rear Door Alert system that uses a sequence logic to determine if there may be a passenger or item in the rear seat. If the logic triggers there is someone in the back seat, the vehicle will display a message on the instrument panel and, as a last resort, honk the horn to remind you to check the rear seat. Nissan now plans to make this possible in all its vehicles by 2022.

It monitors when you open and close the rear door before and after the vehicle is in motion. If you opened the door before the trip began and did not re-open it after stopping and putting the vehicle in “Park,” RDA will alert the driver via a “Check rear seat” notification in the instrument panel. If the driver leaves the vehicle without opening the rear door, the system triggers distinctive horn chirps to alert the driver of the issue.

According to Nissan, RDA will become a standard feature on eight additional four-door Nissan models, including the Rogue (Rogue Sport US QQ is mentioned). But that’s not the only plans Nissan has in store. It also plans to have this be a standard feature on all four-door Nissan models (US?) by 2022. That includes trucks, SUVs, and sedans.
Note this appears to be at present US based and mentions “Park” eg Automatics ! What about Europe ?
