Colin, this is the company I used for our SF Antenna. This was pretty basic electronic wise, no DAB, good quality, QQ Nissan color matched, simple to fit 3M for a DIY man and it has never been Washed Off . The other reason I used them is because we had one on our Nissan Juke also - Dave

Thanks Dave....I wondered what was under the SF casing. I suspect that the black box under the SF case (antenna housing) contains a VHF radio booster amplifier and cable connects to the ICE. The booster must be real close to the antenna as with TV signal boosters. The GPS antenna should be out there somewhere.
The circuit board wavy antenna is effectively a tuned coiled wire for VHF reception. It'll work in close proximity to transmitters (< 1km approx) with a booster amplifier and so will some pieces of wire to a much lesser extent. Some domestic FM/DAB receivers have a telescopic antenna...a piece of extendable wire actually.
The whole DAB/FM system relies on station switching as you drive about. The ICE radio itself takes care of that to some extent, unless you drive into woods or similar. That switching brings me right round to the ICE reboot problems of earlier QQs we see here.....aaargh..
