If you mean characters 10 and 11 I've found this:
Position 11
For the Nissan vehicles made for the European market, this position [i.e. 11th digit] is a fixed code and it is attached to the previous character.
U0 - European market
U1 - apart from the rest of the European markets
However wikipedia suggests it's just part of the sequential number - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number

Ok, thank you. Mine is as I said U2, so I assume it because it is newer model (2018).gloucester wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 5:00 pm If you mean characters 10 and 11 I've found this:

That's possible but I did an extensive search and couldn't get an authoritative definitive answer.

So I find myself here because of problems listed (high oil consumption- warning light for oil pressure) although I don’t have a rattling noise as some have listed. I haven’t read through this whole forum (although I do intend to read it all) but I have seen someone post VIN numbers of those cars affected and mine is within that range. I bought the car just under 2 years ago from car giant, the car has already been into Nissan once because of warnings lights coming on (was a known problem and was fixed quickly) and my car is booked in for a service this Saturday. What has been people’s best approach to this problem ? The car is a 15 plate and it is out of warranty but I have seen somewhere that Nissan extended the warranty on vehicles with this problem to 5 years. Is this correct?

You may find this thread helpful too. I currently have a 3 year old qq that I’ve had for 6 months, from a Nissan dealer, that is drinking oil. but with no other symptoms at present. I’ve informed the dealer, who has started the process of monitoring the oil loss.

To add to all the confusion - I got the timing chain rattle which ultimately led to engine replacement, but I never experienced any oil loss, and I checked regularly due to all the issues reported on here.
So even without oil loss in terms of the main sump that is checked via the dipstick, the timing chamber can still get starved of oil due to the fault.
