I’m going to stick my neck out and say "No"
I know mine happily displays the detail from my iMusic on my iPhone (album covers) but don’t think anything else.
You’ll have to get a phone holder I think

Yes, you can, but ONLY if your Connect unit is new enough to support Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Older units cannot simply do this through the USB connection.

Ah, so you think it wouldn't display on the sat-nav screen? I notice your 1.3 QQ is a year newer than mine. Waze works fine in my son-in-laws VW Tiguan. Wasn't about the QQ.

I don’t have Waze so can’t answer your question.
I think if your Sat Nav has a memory card it doesn’t support CarPlay or Android auto
If I’m not happy with the results from the built in Sat Nav I switch to Google maps which is available via CarPlay.
I might download Waze tonight and give it a whizz tomorrow on the way to work

Actually having read the reviews on the App. Store I will give Waze a miss.

It occured to me late last night that I knew the answer all along.
Using CarPlay both Google Maps and Apple Maps display on the Connect screen.
I gave Waze a go this morning driving to work.
I don't know whether extra features appear if you create an account.
It was OK, but I didn't particularly like it and found the speed display distracting - still prefer Google maps but that's down to personal preference.
So the answer to Mostyn's original question is Yes, you can use Waze (and Google maps and Apple maps, and I suspect others) on the Sat Nav screen, provided you have the most up to date Connect system.

Waze and Google Maps both have their advantages:
Waze has more in the line of police warnings, potholes warnings, etc - things users have reported. I find the pothole info very useful to be honest...
Google Maps has detailed of alternative routes and time consequences of taking them - this can be useful if you know the area and know whether there are any temporary issues.
However Mostyn has the old Connect 3 unit and hence can't use either.

no doubt I merely scratched the surface of what Waze is capable of doing but in an hours drive I received no notifications, despite an obvious speed trap on the A34 and heavy congestion on the A556/M6 junction. No doubt that's my fault for failing to set it up properly.

that's my conclusion too, which is why I recommended a phone holder in my first post, the remained was for interest/information of future readers of this thread
