So... I've been looking at past deals.

Deal now expired: New Nissan Qashqai Hatchback 1.3 DiG-T N-Connecta [Glass Roof Pack] 5dr £17,305 / £17,880

That's a good price for a brand new car?

I was thinking of spending £12k... maybe push close to £13k... for a small extra, a brand new car for £17k?

Or is it all a gimmick?

ALSO... someone told me that to keep the manufacturer warranty valid, you HAVE to get serviced at the manufacturer dealers - else completely void!!?
When serviced... they will charge you £500 for scratching their backsides and not even changing the oil.
That comes from my nephew who worked in a Citroen dealer.
Is this true? If true... then better off spending less on a used car (say for £12k) and paying warranty after the first year of ownership?

Having looked at autotrader loads, £17k is a really good price IMHO.

QUESTION: how much would a 1 year car of the same spec as given above cost?
How about 2 years?

If that's REALLY a new car - i.e. you'd be the first registered keeper - then list price would be at least £25,620 - I assume the spread you quote is paint at £575. So a great deal!

Carwow's good for getting prices,

However I suspect it was a pre-reg?

Servicing has to be to manufacturer's specification but not actually franchised. I had my motorbike serviced in March at my normal "back street garage" rather than take it to the Yamaha dealer I bought it from. More for convenience than anything else.

However if something goes wrong shortly after the warranty expires Nissan will look much more favourably on a car that's been dealer serviced.

I bought new and having it serviced by a franchise gives me "free" RAC membership.
If you are a competent person who can fix stuff at the side of the road, that’s not valuable but I’m inept at anything mechanical, so I value it as a benefit.

The service cost depends on service type..Minor or Major and includes all related free software updates. Think there is about £100 between Minor and Major. 2nd year is Major. The dealer I used was very good...thats not the dealer I purchased from. Observe colour of oil...for one.

Nissan warranty invalid if not dealer serviced. RAC cover is not free and I think about £100 pa...within the Nissan overall charge. Probably optional

What i see of these offers are at about £17k for 1 year pre reg and 10k miles on clock...as mine They attempt to hang on £800 of extras that I auto binned. 2 years old likely drops them to £15k or whatever they can get for them + condition related.

I'm never sure about mandatory dealer service...legally. Minefield I suspect.

Correct for diesel - incorrect for petrol (£80) which doesn't need a fuel filter.

Extras - brake fluid and air filter

It might well be me misunderstanding but MrMatrix has to me posted so many posts in the last couple of weeks on basically the same subject, could this not all have been covered on one post. Now members are trying to help and the criticisms are coming on the relevant answers. OK we are not at school and sometimes mistakes are made (me also) but do we really need this Teacher / Pupil approach, as I believe we are adult people and are just trying to help members and facts are sometimes incorrect - Dave 🤫
