Qashqai Model: Mk.2 Qashqai - J11 (2013–2017)

Hello All.

I just aquired a 2015 Qashqai J11 Dci Acenta. With a hidden surprise of £0 annual car tax :D .

Me and the wife love the car.

It is a 2015 in dark blue, I picked it up from a garage in town, it is an ex arval car with 86k miles.
On forcourt inspection the paint and interior is very good for age and mileage. The service history is full up untill 66k.
I noticed that no recent record of engine service and/or timing belt done recently, and the oil in the dipstick was dirty to confirm that. But apart from that the car was very clean and ran tight as a drum (suspected a large proportion of miles being motorway).
The garage agreed to timing belt kit replacement,
engine service, have rear parking sensors fitted by a auto electrican (wifes requirement - tho useful), and new MOT (garage policy). Then needed rear brake pads and 2 rear tyres to pass mot, combined with the run in fresh rubber already on the fronts, that was a good result lol.
So all in all, a great looking car, and loads of service work done before driving it away, a nice feeling.
We agreed a deal and drove it away on 12th of august. So far so good.

The changes I have made since is that I have installed a extra 12v socket RHS of existing one, fed from a seperate ignition switched supply for the dash cam, as the 2 pre existing sockets appear to be permintly on all the time? I have taken my supply from the 10A IGN POWER fuse by use of a fuse jumper as I prefer plug and play to butchering cables.
I have also just installed a PST10XTN Android 10.1 screen head unit, all working ok, and steering controls still work on it. However the ariel antenna connection does not seem to match, despite the kits being advertised as being compatible with the car, so I have had to order a PC5-147 adapter lead off amazon to get around this issue, so if anyone is thinking of fitting the same head unit, you may need to do the same.

My next job is going to be installing an extra fixed usb socket to fit somware in the glove box cavity (not decided where yet) fed from the same switch feed from the new switched 12v socket. Just for a feed for a pocket wifi router I am planning to leave in the glove box to serve as an wifi source for the android head unit, and for my kid sat in the back on long car journeys.

Well that is as far I have got with the car so far, the boss is pleased with it, she uses it for work and the school runs, so I am making sure it she is running on premium diesel, and taking it out on good run at weekends to keep the dpf in check.

I look forward to interacting with everyone on here in due cource.

Thank you for reading.

Regards

Jamie

Correction: I used a piggy back fused wire, not a jumper for the 12v ignition supply lol.

Welcome to this forum

Great you realised the timing belt needed replacement - that's costly!

The armrest 12V socket turns off after about 40 seconds. The handbook appears not to mention this - I plugged my dashcam into there (though note you need a long lead if routing past the glovebox and up the A pillar).

I don't recall anyone installing wifi - couldn't you put it in the armrest box and plug into the 12V socket within with an adaptor - since you've now realised that's "ignition switched".

You can use a GL- iNet type 150m Mini Router/Repeater. Similar to this:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32570001210.html

I have 2. One to connect to my shed (remote survey camera) and one with Android phone remote controlling my Nikon D7200 Camera. The latter saves a few £100 quid over Nikon wireless remote

Uses OpenWRT firmware rather than that shipped.

Was considering another for a rear car camera to Android...

Ahh, thanks for the pointers about the armrest socket, that is significant. I may put my mifi router in there plugged in thats so much easier.
I went down this option as I already had a router gathering dust in a drawer from a finished contract from a few years ago. I have just put a new sim in on a unlimited plan so overall not the most ideal solution but conveniant and least cost to me.
