Hi
We have a 2014 1.2 digi tec quashquai , just under 60000 miles.
4 weeks ago it just wouldn’t start after parkinb , aa towed to local garage who diagnosed failed fuel pump at cost of £1000 . Well they fitted it and still had errors, eventually washed hands of it and said take to nissan , so aa towed to nissan.
Nissan diagnostics done , showing sensor issue etc changed all still not work asfor longer and finally diagnosed tensioner on timing chain gone and need new timing chain etc at £1100 on top of £350 for diagnosis but said couldn’t guarantee no engine damage, quick google shows this isn’t that uncommon.
So contact nissan direct who want to now have car cyljnder stripped as one is showing a problem at cost 0f extra £430 so over £800 to diagnose then they can advise if can be repaired or of new engine ( quoted £7500)
Nissan may make a goodwill offer but cant say for sure until diagnosed and I provide all the history etc
I have asked garage for best case scenario price as well as quoted £800 to put old cylinder back if needed so guessing new one would be that plus part , plus £800
Going to see if any smaller garages can fit a re con engine in? Has anyone had a price for this ? We paid £10000 nearly 2 years ago and £7500 more we don’t have and I wouldn’t spend it even of I did,
Any help or advice please ?

Welcome to this forum.

There's an ENORMOUS topic on this site dealing with this issue.

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2780

753 posts over 76 pages.

As to fitting a reconditioned engine there may be something in there about that particular slant, albeit most cars affected have been a little newer and have had Nissan funded or contributed repairs.

You can see that I sold my car nearly two years ago - I feared the same might happen to mine but it was OK at the time on 20k miles.

Nissan may contribute but you'll have to demonstrate a Nissan service history.

The weird thing is we have had no oil loss, had oil changes but not had to top oil up in between which seems some people have had.
This has come from nowhere, always driven and sounded great, though looking at mot history can see one person at 20000 only put about 3000 on so makes me wonder of they had an issue before

Why do you need a nissan service history if they're to contribute to it? The problem isn't due to lack or care but a fault that was created when the car was manufactured, therefore, serviced or not the issue would still come to light.

There is no legal obligation for Nissan to contribute to these repairs. It does sometimes do so but only to those people who can demonstrate their vehicles have been serviced "properly" in Nissan's eyes. There was a service bulletin which modified the car - cars serviced outside the dealer network may not have had that.

Thanks for the info. How can I see the bulletin if my car has been serviced outside the Nissan dealership. I didn't realise that I was obliged to be serviced by them??? Do you know how I can check if my car was mentioned in the bulletin

I don't know what you mean. Individual cars aren't cited in the bulletin - it's ranges of VINs.
