Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by luke0586 »

Hi all,

I was initially looking at the Hyundai Tucson but for my budget it offered less features than my Vauxhall Astra Elite and feels cheaply made in comparison, however remembering my love for having the Nissan Rouge as my hire car in the states, I've decided to look at the Qashqai as they are more sensibly priced than Rouge's sister the X-Trail here in the UK, but also feel very similar inside.

I'm looking at buying a Qashqai around 2017/18 plate. I've decided that I want an automatic and diesel for the better MPG, also I was initially looking at the Tekna but then see the N-Connecta what offers basically the same spec aside from the heated/leather seats...if I'm correct and/or should I be looking at any other models; auto lights/wipers, climate control, cruise/speed limiter, parking sensors/camera and keyless entry/start are a must?

The only feature that i'm really missing out on compared to my Astra is Apple CarPlay, is this something that anyone has fitted this either by an update or aftermarket head unit?

I've noticed that in 2017 there was a model change with some exterior and interior changes including the newer steering wheel, should I be looking at this model over the older one and if so why?

I'm open to any other advice and info anyone can give.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
I can’t really answer your questions, sorry.
Although, note that my last QQ was an n-connecta but when I bought it from new I added heated seats and windscreen. The devil will be in the detail of the car you are looking at w.r.t. the actual spec.
A good friend had a 2014 J11a diesel automatic and he thought it was brilliant.

I know one regular poster has pdf copies of brochures and when he sees your questions he’s bound to post and help.

CarPlay - a few threads and loads of posts about changing the Connect headunit.
Get a flask of tea and some sandwiches, there’s a lot to read. I believe some people have been successful in making this change.

Welcome to this forum.

The earlier model up to 2017 is termed the J11. The later model is the J11b. The completely new front and partially new rear end are the main differences - revised engines and infotainment came later. Note also that Nissan keep changing the trim levels, even when the name remains the same, and there are various option packs, so seemingly similar cars might be quite different!

The changeover period was protracted and not everything changed at the same time, notably the new infotainment system which was many months in being introduced. Engines also changed in 2018 in accordance with increased emissions requirements - and notably the diesels gained AdBlue.

The 1.2 engine is infamous for failing - check the relevant very long topic.

The CVT gearbox is also infamous for failing - check the relevant topic.

Personally I would go for the later 1.3 engine which came with a DCT gearbox - everyone seems to like this model.

In fact the new engines and infotainment were two years later - hadn't realised it was so much delayed. The 20190701 catalogue is too large but here's the slightly later one. And cars after this date were coming with the old infotainment for a while

Thanks for the info... so with me looking at 2017-2018 N-Connecta do they both come with; 360 cam, climate control, cruise/speed limiter, auto lights/wipers, high beam assist?

I believe so - the N-Connecta is pretty well specced.
