Hi,

My daughter has a 2009 1.5 diesel turbo. I changed the oil filter, oil and air filter and it just will not start at all.

I'm a petrol man myself and a bit stuck when it comes to diesel engines.

Any ideas as to what I might have done ?

Thanks in advance.

Update.

I have a basic OBD scanner. I checked this and found "Glow pug module fault". This has cleared but still no fire

Welcome to this forum.

The glow plug aspect may have been there before and is unconnected.

Are you sure doing the oil change that you didn't disturb something - knocked off a connection somewhere, etc.?

Perhaps for others who might give a more technical answer you can define the problem better?

By "not start at all" what do you mean:

e.g. nothing happens when you turn the key - no dashboard lights, etc, or everything lights up but the starter can't be heard, or the starter is turning the engine but it's not starting.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

The engine turns over as usual and the dash is fully lit.

Just not firing.

I wonder if a duff glow plug relay will inhibit the Engine management computer from firing?

Not sure that ECU would disable starting/firing on one faulty injector.

I suppose if I were to look at this problem it would be to confirm fuel feed first. After that I'd need to get any error codes off (DTCs).

Thats if noting obvious was hanging off the engine...plug etc.

Hi Everyone.

The engine is now running !!

I figure this is what happened.

My daughter always has a struggle to start the car first thing in the Winter but she just keeps the key turned until something happens.

I took the car to my garage where it stood in the cold weather for a few days allowing the cylinder head to get really cold. (I suspect the glow plug relay has been duff for some time but since she uses the car every day it was never an issue for her). (Code 0381)

So, I did the service and it refused to fire because the head was sub zero and glow plug system is in fault.

To get it started I squirted Halfords Easystart into the inlet in short bursts whilst cranking continuously. It took a while but the occasional short 'brumm' kept my hopes alive and after about 1/3rd of a can it burst into life!! (It also blacked out the entire neighborhood and all the budgies died).

It restarted unassisted after it had been out for a run.

Happy to pass on this information. Have a wonderful evening

it may be worth you getting the fuel filter replaced too if that hasn`t been changed on the car, and may be replace the glo-plugs too as they will be 10+ yrs old if they have never been replaced. these all help with the running of the car ;-)
