Rattling/tractor noise when idling

Hi,
You can reduce the noise of the cold engine having to provide a lot of energy... It's very simple, when you start the system, in parking mode (P), just before selecting mode D, lightly press the accelerator. ICE starts with a reasonable noise and warms up the time to leave the car park or to fasten your seat belt. By default, the e-power often starts in EV mode and drains the battery. And if you have to climb or accelerate, the cold engine starts noisily. I always force the engine to start, I'm only bothered by the noise when I forget to do so.
You should also avoid playing with the EV mode. It's not a plug-in hybrid. The energy stored in the battery does not come from the sky. If you drain the battery, then you have to recharge it with gasoline and sometimes make the engine noisier.

This is probably what the dealers are doing with their demo cars before someone takes one out…start the ICE up in the yard away from the punter, bring it round to them possibly with the ICE running so they can explain how it charges the battery in this mode.
I have done this & yes you don’t get the tractor /hammer drill sound the first time the ICE needs to kick in to recharge the battery.
Does that then give poor mpg before you really get started - in the teens or low 20s mpg.

There has been an update released to be performed on customer complaint basis to help reduce this for vehicles built before january 2023, I'd suggest getting intouch with dealers

Interesting, have you got any further info on the “update”, is there anything on Nissan site, etc?

Nothing on their site as its customer complaint only technicians and some dealer staff should know about it, if you complain and the vehicle was built before January 2023 and it on the old software then the update will lessen the noise. The update involves reprogramming ecm and vcm.

Are you talking about this ugly sound.

I took a video of my new x-Trail. You can see the problem at about 20 seconds

Yes,
Some liken it to a tractor, others a hammer or impact drill. Someone said to me it sounds like a very angry bear grrrrrrrrr !
Always does it when the ICE first kicks in when driving, when the OCE is cold, though I’ve heard it again after I’ve stopped for a short time.
Not surprised you’ve had it on the X trail as it’s the same ICE etc.
I’m also convinced mine has another sound in the mix, something not as rhythmic as the hammer.

I’ll contact my dealers service dept & see if they know anything about this update, if they do I’ll try & get it booked in & then see if it fixes it.

Hello

Are there any updates on how dealers are responding to this problem?

I had my first experience of this a couple of days ago (4.5k miles, but I bought it at 4.2k about 3 weeks ago).

Maybe a very-very-very-veeeery stupid idea.

But I understand that Qashqai e-POWER has an active noise cancelling system (although it's not mentioned in the manual, as is for X-Trail). As far as I understand, this is supposed to "mute" the engine noise, not necessarily all other misc exterior noise.

Did anyone test if this rattling issue is actually a "noise cancelling" issue? Maybe disconnect the subwoofer in the boot and see if it sounds the same?

I'm making many suppositions as I don't own this car, but I'm extremely interested in it and close yo ordering one. So please forgive me if I make wrong assumptions.

FWIW I had two test drives in an ePower and then had one one for three days while my Hyundai was having some work done and at no time did I hear the 'tractor sound'... I picked up my new Techna yesterday and I heard the noise within the first five minutes and several time since..
