Hello to all.
The thermostat block has exploded suddenly during driving.
Is this a common problem?
After a few weeks with no problems I had a 48 months maintenance in an official Nissan garage.
A week after the car started to have problems with the ignition. Sometimes it work one the first try and some times it took much more attempts. The official Nissan garage claims the needs to replace the engine but no problem found when connected to the car computer and the car is driving with no other problems. Not smoking, no change in fuel or oil consumption, not warming up and no other problems.
Any ideas?

Not heard of this problem before myself
I had a 2019 1.3 DCT and did nearly 30,000 miles in a bit under 3 years from new.
Completely fault free.

I had a thermostat replaced under warranty and have done 44,000 miles in 4 years with no other engine issues.
When the thermostat went wrong it had no real effect at all.

I have a Nissan 1.3 Accenta. Driving up the motorway I lost power and all coolant. The Thermostat housing was damaged and the link to the main hose failed. Nissan dealer charged me £470 to repair the housing and told me there was no compression and I need a new engine at £12,000. We leased the car for 3 years and 9 months then bought it seven months ago. I have contacted the dealer and Nissan and am waiting for responses. I'm told the alloy engine can't take any excess heat. It never went into the red. Any suggestions please?

Hi all, I see this post is a few months old but my wife’s car had the same issue with the thermostat housing exploding and damaging the engine. She was driving along the motorway with no prior warning, engine stopped and steam from bonnet. Managed to coast to the hard shoulder. Took to garage near us and found the thermostat housing split it two at the moulded seam. He replaced and hoped there was no further damage but unfortunately there is. Head gasket gone as well as possibly further damage internally.
Car is a 69 plate QQ bought from a Nissan dealer when it was a year old. Now with only 34k miles only out of warranty just under a year. Now at a Nissan dealer for diagnosis and will be Taking it further with Nissan Uk and taking legal advice if it’s not sorted for free due to this as basically my £18.5k car now useless after less than 3 years of ownership. Car has full service history and no issues prior to it.
Has anyone else who had this issue got an update to their problem?

Yes that’s my car. Uploaded by the garage we had it recovered to and they found the bust thermostat housing.
No prior indication when driving. Engine just stopped and released all coolant from the housing. Same connection as previous poster.
My mrs had to coast into the hard shoulder.
The garage who looked at it said no way should have happened and must have been a faulty housing.

Qashqai 2009 reg. Had exactly the same happen to me last week driving on the M2. No prior warning, car lost power very quickly but managed to pull over onto the Hard Shoulder. Both AA and local garage reached the same conclusion, that the problem was a faulty thermostat causing the plastic hose pipe to shear off from the housing leading to the hot coolant showering the whole engine. Engine now needs replacing. Belief from both parties was that this was a design fault, plastic hoses and mountings. and not a driver / owner fault. Will be contacting Nissan this week but would be useful to know if you have had any response with your case.
