Indeed Pandjh, but as long as Nissan won't come clean with it all and tell us when and also why 4 iterations of the thermostate housing were used in QQ ...
we can only guess and learn from these bad experiences.
Is plastic still used and if so, what was changed.
I read here from others at the forum who predict that this will happen to the J12 as well, but since it only happens after some time and/or miles (?)
it may become even worse.
Only time will tell I guess.

I have not suffered with this problem on my 2023 Qashqai 1.3 but am interested in case I need to dispose of my Qashqai before it happens to me, so following somebody's suggestion on the forum to involve the press I have emailed Auto Express to ask that one of their investigative journalist looks into the concern with the thermostat failure, which can lead to engine failure, I also copied them into this thread, with all it's 21 pages, if I get a response I will update here..

@bryfly48. That's a good idea.
You might also link to the UK Facebook forum sub threat where the exact same thermostate housing failre issue is discussed.
To me it seems valid and quite wide spread :
Summary of the many FB posts I read at :
https://www.facebook.com/groups/4295033 ... hermostate
This is more than engine failure ... total loss and potential danger if this happens on the highway, which would mean loss of lives as well.
FWIW if this happens to the J12 successor model as well I *will* get rid of the car ... hopefully still in time.

Well done @bryfly48. I was planning on contacting the press but you beat me to it. If you do manage to get the Facebook link working you’ should be able to see the conversation I started re this problem… got a lot of interest. (Search Jan Segal Gee in the Nissan Qashqai group). Let’s hope you get a positive reply

Hello,
I've got a 2017 (67 plate) 1.2 Nissan Qashqai and last week I had my garage replace the timing chain and tensioner on it and the car has on done 41,850 miles and literally the day I picked it up from the garage, the engine light was still on, and on further investigation by the garage the thermostat on the side of the engine had failed which meant I needed to replace it, straight away.
Prior to the timing chain being replaced, I had no problems whatsoever with the thermostat, it just decided that it needed replacing.

I find it amazing that even 2017 1.2's are still suffering the same issues as the much earlier ones.
Does Nissan learn nothing???
And as for your thermostat issue, thats supposed to affect 1.3s only.
Quite a bit of bad luck all round there Antbell84!

The answer Auto Express most probably has prepared for each and every such claim.
The only way to protect against catastropic engine failure seem to be to go for the extended warranty in case of a new car, but question to buy any second hand car QQ with a 1.2 (loss of oil) or 1.3 DIG-T engine (thermostate housing) !?
