Hi,
I put a deposit down on a 2020 (70) plate 1.3 dig T at the weekend and then came across this post.
Now worried that I’ve potentially bought a car with a pending catastrophic issue.
Not sure what I can do to alleviate my worries? Take it to a main dealer for a new thermostat housing just in case?
Many thanks

Maybe all that has been affected need to contact BBC watchdog and report the issue and hopefully they do a report on it! Maybe then they might take action.

.
If they do, they never interact with the other members.
We used to have a member who worked at Sunderland but I’m not conscious of seeing anything from them recently.

Buy from a main dealer with a proper warranty (which you can extend) if you want worry free.

Buying used either privately or via non main dealer means you carry the risk. You can't expect Nissan to fix out of warranty cars at their expense.

If you can demonstrate a premature failure or defective design, you absolutely can. But it’s a fight.

I ended up pulling out of the sale. It wasn’t being sold by a main dealer. I actually reached out to my local main Nissan dealer to see if they had heard of an issue
and surprisingly they said they had!

I also happened to check out another Qashqai group and there were also people reporting the same issue (appreciate they could also have reported in this forum after googling exactly like I did, so number affected could be wrongly inflated)

Hi, had the same issue with my 1.3 158hp 2020 Qashqai. It lost all the cooling liquid and hit the max temperature on the termostat. It started to pull on gear change (automatic) and I stop after 200m. They replaced termostat housing without any additional charges and that was 3 weeks ago. So far I was driving the car every day but I am worried if that left some trace on the engine or shorten it's lifespan :( should I worry about it? I have extended warranty for 1.5 years more (5y in total).

Claim that no further damage was done since we stopped quickly after the temperature rose. Been for a good drive today (100miles at motorway speeds) and all seems fine. Not sure I will keep it and run it to the ground anymore though.

Interestingly, Nissan UK said one option available to me was to reject the car as not fit for purpose given this problem, and the other suspension and drive train issues I've had to fi this year.
Can you please share if anything changed since then? Is everything still working fine?

I'm not a QQ enthusiast and rarely drop in on this forum but this topic is making me very anxious, as I own a 1.3 model that was made in 2019.

Had the car since new and completed less than 25000 miles. Its always been serviced as required and is never pushed hard. I'm not the kind of driver.

Decided to call into the dealership and it seems they have "done a few of these". I also understand the plastic thermostat housing has been modified more than once.

So, I can have the old component changed but this will cost £546.61, which covers part, coolant , labour and VAT.

Equally, I could purchase an extra 12 month warranty but this is costly too, coming in at £420. Additionally, I not sure if this kind of failure is defiantly covered under the term of the extended warranty.

The thought of a plastic unit failing and possibly completely wrecking the engine is really putting me off this car and can't believe a recall is not being considered by the experts at Nissan.

Only thing my local mechanic said, is that the sudden loss of coolant shouldn't cause catastrophic damage providing the car is not driven for any length of time in this condition.

Really not sure what to do next, since everything on my car is working okay at this moment in time.

Anyone making positive progress over this matter??
