CVT gearbox replacement on 2015 Qashqai

Typical story. 71k miles on 65 registration qashqai.
Gearbox has failed and needs replacement
Nissan/Dealer have wiped off their hands. Absolutely no help

So my questions - Has anyone done a gearbox replacement/rebuild from an independent garage?
I’m being quoted £3300.
Should i consider doing this? Has anyone done this and happy with it?

These gearboxes are known for being unreliable.
Statistically they cannot all be bad but there’s been a Class Action in America and Canada which resulted in the gearbox receiving a lifetime warranty.

This crops up in various forums every now and then.
The answer seems to be that you need to find a reputable gearbox specialist.
I have seen recommendations on here, if I remember correctly.

Thanks Mike, I’m aware of the recalls and extended warranties in US
Perplexed that it’s not happened in UK. Something to be raised to the Motor Ombudsman, perhaps

In US I wager 98% will be auto boxes, not manuals.

Hi,

On which factors you decided to change the gear box. Were you getting any special error.

I also have a automatic car same model and while checkign the car from differtn technician so far result is same error codes : P0965 and P2765
And while checking the error code, may forums over net with suggestion to replaced battery.

While checking with Nissan service center they suggested me to change the gear box cost 5500 or consult the gear specialist from outside

I upgraded my battery but still can see the same error. Chasis fault system error

i went to nissan dealer who said gear box needs to be replaced
did a check with a local garage too. same diagnosis

my 2015 qashqai at 40,000 needed new CVT and timing chain! £6,000 later!..... 4 months later, car died again and is now in garage with a suspected engine failure!!! Nissan have taken charge, still dont know whats happening, the nissan dealer (not where i bought it from ) has had it for 2 months! fortunately i have been given a fancy hire car to use..... watch this space......

Pual - do you still recommend a gear box replacement? Cant do it via Nissan costs be £5k. I’ll have a to do via an independent garage

Well finally my car broke down and prolem seems to be with Gear box, now loking for a gear box specialist got many quotation within cost 2300 but it will be rebuilding or reconditioning.
