Painful noise from steering

Looking for some advice on where to start please.

We have a 2016 (66 plate) J11 Qashqai 1.5 dci and I'm starting to hate it!

Late last year we had a knocking noise when going over bumps or uneven ground, which resulted in us replacing springs, shocks and top mounts on both sides. We also ended up replacing the lower arms at the same time as they looked worn. Before we replaced, we noticed that the top bolt on the shocker had actually come lose and was almost all the way off...which we tightened. That alleviated the knocking but then I noticed the shocker was leaking so we decided to replace the lot.

A week later one of the front wheel bearings started making a racket so we replaced those.

A couple of months later the gear linkage came off whilst we were on the M67 (which was fun!), so we replaced that.

Now my wife has reported a knocking/groaning when turning the wheel at low speed. I've just taken it for a drive to listen and recorded the following video of the noise:

It only makes the noise at low speed, when turning the steering wheel for the first few degrees. 20mph+ there's no noise and no noise if you turn the wheel faster.

No noticable play in the steering, as soon as I turn the wheel even a degree the car changes direction.

Where do we start?

Sounds like you've been through the mill with various parts needing replaced 😞
However, this time I think it's your anti roll bar bushes, not worn out (but worth checking) but just in need of lubrication.
Hopefully this will be your cheap, quick and easy fix.

I had the same noise and mine needed both arms replacing £400 😐

Already had the arms done 👍 definitely think it's the sway bar bushes, not had a proper look yet but had someone turn he wheel while I listened and it was pretty much the same as the above vid
