To be honest, personally I'm not to impressed by all this & its mostly a waste of money as the science has already been done. Engines are off a production aircraft, the chassis will be designed as an aircraft and manufactured using similar processes. And as others have said, its not really a car unless its driven by the wheels. It even has a tail fin to keep it laterally stable.

Bloodhound is just an aircraft that never leaves the ground.

Gel, saw this article on the Beeb 26.09. which is basically the same :

Daewar, whatever this Bloodhound vehicle is whether it be an Aircraft or Car, there is still a lot of British Design, Technology & Companies involved so let's give some credit where credit is due.
What is not pleasing is the fact that the Chinese Geely Corp. are now backing the Project to what gains - Technology for example !.
They are already big producers of Cars, Motorcycles, Engines, own London Taxis, own Volvo Cars :

China is buying into or outright many High Tech Companies, they have just bought 90% of the German Robot Co. Kuka used in the UK Mini Factory and the US owes China $1.241 billion so who is going to be the Super Power in the future - Dave ;)

Well it Looks like this Project is still on - Dave :D

"A British team is developing a car that will be capable of reaching 1,000mph (1,610km/h). Powered by a rocket bolted to a Eurofighter-Typhoon jet engine, the vehicle will first mount an assault on the world land speed record (763mph; 1,228km/h). Bloodhound should start running on Hakskeen Pan in Northern Cape, South Africa, in 2018".
