I got rid of mine once I found out this problem existed, and when the three year warranty expired. It's still running five years later but of course I don't know whether it's had engine work.

Nissan have been known to contribute but only generally in circumstances where there's a FULL Nissan service history. Cases seem to have dropped off recently.

The cost you've been quoted is higher than other people have reported. I don't believe anyone's actually had an engine "rebuilt", rather it's been replaced.

There are companies on eBay offering reconditioned or low mileage ones - and a fitting service and short guarantee. Might be worth discussing it with one or two.
Sorry I only just saw your reply! Car has done 54000 miles. Nissan have said they absolutely will not help cover any costs, apparently because the engine has had no issues before now and the car was well maintained, which means it can’t be an engine fault?! So I asked why else the engine has failed and do they build their engines to only last that long?
Considered getting it fixed by an independent garage but instead I’m selling it as a non-runner to a local garage and have bought a different, non-Nissan, car.

Hi all new here but similar problems.

I have a 64 plate 1.2 dig t 90 thousand miles , jumped in it yesterday to go to work, within 5 minutes the Engine light came on and started misfiring, had the car read with the scan tool and it came up with a misfire cylinder 3. Moving forwards I cleared the codes checked the plugs coil packs , the slake plugs I changed as the old ones weren't in good condition, still misfiring although no engine light.

I then compression checked the cylinder all 4.... so here's the problem cylinder 3 has 0 compression :( has anyone else has this??

I'm looking for some direction , could the timing of slipped ? Causing the valves to stay open or have the rings all of a sudden exploded?

Oil levels fine and is checked regular and it does burn a bit but I wouldn't if said it's excessive for the model lol.

Help please :)

Looks like the piston has exploded, common issue. What was the oil consumption?
When did you change sparks last time?

Erm oil doesent need topping up that often tbh monthly according to the father in law (his car). So took the head off and we have a burnt out valve.

Question is , do I change them all or just the one. How far to take it , timing chain / tensioner as when this has been removed the tensioner was at full capacity.

And finally do I do the rings while it's in bits

1st time poster. What a bunch of nightmares. I was due to buy a 2016 pulsar Tekna 1.2 dig t, it's on 63k miles. I've asked the car dealer about these issues, they told me it went in for a timing chain and 'head work' costing them 2k. It's on sale for £6.950. I was very tempted at first since this is a good price for this size car with all the extra features and full eather interior. I think my heart still wants it despite these stories but I need to listen to you all. If these problems have been fixed will they cone back? The work is guaranteed for 12 months they told me.

As I've said previously:

Welcome to this forum.

I'd be suspicious about "your" car. The timing chain is usually a "replace at 175,000 miles" item so for it to be needing attention at 63k points to possible issues.

Yeah I realised that! Thanks for replying. It seems to be that the pistons are poorly machined to fit their bores. Oil is burned excessively and compression is lost, then the timing chain goes and so does the piston heads. Think I'll avoid this 1.2 version.

if the cars are maintained properly and oil checked often they may serve for years
