Qashqai general reliability

Good morning everyone,

I'm new to the forum and previously we have only ever owned German cars within our family.

I am looking at buying a Qashqai for my wife to ferry our kids to school and back etc and the occasional motorway journey.

We are considering a mk1 qashqai, with an automatic gearbox and unsure of which engine is best perhaps the 1.5dci? Budget will be around 6k ideally maybe a little more for the right car.

I just wondered what the general reliability of these cars is like? A few friends mentioned they suffer with issues and I've seen a fair few adverts selling cars that are non runners. So I'm trying to build a picture of general reliability and major issues.

I know sometimes a forum isn't the best place to look as you wouldn't buy anything haha...

I guess what I'm asking is in my budget is it reasonable to expect something reasonably reliable and trouble free??

I do expect to budget for maintenance and general wear and tear items but am concerned about things like engines seizing etc and other major faults. Just looking for some reassurance more than anything.

Is there anythjng else i should be considering my budget?

If it has a CVT gearbox, then run away unless you can get a warranty that covers it.

With your budget you should be looking at the mkll version.

Be hard pushed to get a mkll for under £7k unless it's been to the moon and back.

Possibly by "mkII" he's meaning the facelift J10?

Generally the MK2 QQ is referred to as the J11A model - Dave 🤨

IIRC J10 (aka Mark 1) only available as a 2 litre petrol as an automatic.

A friend of mine had a 14-reg J11a 1.6 diesel which was wonderfully reliable.

The J10 was available with Petrol CVT or Diesel full auto
