Interior fogging up

Post by Lusky » Wed Nov 27, 2019 7:57 pm

Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice. Following the recent heavy rain I've noticed the interior windows fogging up quicker than in the past. Obviously a blast of aircon on demist clears it and continuos demist with aircon keeps everything clear, but aircon consumes petrol. Any ideas what might be causing this? I've checked the boot etc. for any wetness and I can't find anything. TIA

heating and warm air inside car causes the windows to mist up. aircon won`t make that much difference to your mpg.

I left my air-con on all the time.

Could be damp under the carpets such that you can't actually feel it.

Aircon must make a difference to MPG, the engine has to work that much harder doesn't it? Dampness under the carpet is one idea, but where would it come from?

You might check the pollen filter isn't damp?

Can you elaborate? This sounds interesting, wouldn't it create a problem when the aircon is on?

Lusky, did you read this recent post it might be of help.
At the start of the winter time I always place either small Henkel De-Humidifer Packs or the Bigger Version from Lidl, which although on the Big Side does it job well. I have never had a water or bad de-misting problem in the QQ it’s just I suppose a precaution. In 2014 our Sales Guy also recommended to keep the Panoramic Sliding Roof Open in the Winter so the Air can get around and prevent mildew buildups, this also appears to work. Just a comment from what I have found others might differ - Dave 😉

I never turn the air conditioning off and regularly got 60+mpg in my diesel cars (QQ and Juke) and nudging 50mpg in my current QQ.
This not only keeps your windows clear but helps maintain a healthy set of seals on your air con system.

Hi Dave I have one of the large bags of De-Humidifer stuff, just recharged it in the microwave in case it had too much moisture in it.
Hadn't thought about the sliding roof, might try it.

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/37688/nissan-qashqai---internal-condensation

If the pollen filter is sodden with water this would be the reason for the condensation.

https://www.confused.com/on-the-road/maintenance/how-to-beat-condensation-in-your-car

A blocked pollen filter, which cleans air entering the car, can be another possible cause.

Check to see if your pollen (cabin) filter is wet. It could be that water got into it somehow and now wet air is being blown into your car
