Qashqai Model: Mk.2 Qashqai Facelift - J11b (2017–2021)

Hi all,

I brought my 2017 Nissan Qashqai on a (67 plate) in May 2023, it's a 1.2 petrol engine with 41,760 miles on the clock. And on Wednesday 07/02/2024 the engine management light came on whilst my wife was driving the car. When I called the AA, they came out and checked the car with their diagnostics computer and it came up with Camshaft sensor b fault, the AA guy said whilst checking the car that there was a chance the chain was on it's way out hence why the sensor came up being faulty.

And after speaking with Nissan on Thursday, they said that the chain needs to be replaced every 6 to 8 years on the Qashqai over a certain mileage on these cars. Is that right and is down to wear and tear and if so should I be expecting a big invoice.

Can someone please help me with an answer.

Hi Antbell84

I have a 1.2 2017 engine also.

I have had the timing chain replaced already under 45k miles (luckily I had an extended warranty)

It is not a manufacturer requirement to change soo early but more because there is a common known fault with the 1.2 engines.

I hope you have some warranty otherwise many have been left out of pocket by thousands of pounds :(
